Public Registry
The Civil Status Section issues true copies of Acts of Birth, Free Status, Marriage, Civil Union, Cohabitation and Death registered in Malta. It also provides multilingual standard forms for these documents under EU Regulation 2016/1191. Certificates accompanied by multilingual standard forms do not require apostille authentication or legalization and are accepted by public authorities in other Member States. However, if such documents are required in non-EU countries, they must be apostilled or legalized.
You can order your certificates as follows:
Online: All certificates can be ordered online at www.certifikati.identita.gov.mt. The certificates ordered will be sent by post. Certificates ordered online can be mailed worldwide or collected from the Public Registry offices in Marsa, Malta or Victoria, Gozo. The Civil Status Section processes all online orders within six (6) working days.

In-Person: Certificates can also be obtained at the Malta Public Registry in Marsa, Malta or the Gozo Public Registry in Victoria, Gozo.
By Post: For orders exceeding €20, certificates may be purchased by post using the appropriate form available here.
Servizz.gov Regional Hubs across Malta offer the service of ordering civil status certificates through the www.certifikati.identita.gov.mt . For information on opening hours and locations, please visit this link.
A servizz.gov officer will order the certificate on your behalf from www.certifikati.gov.mt, and you can pay by cash or with credit card at servizz.gov. Alternatively, the officer will provide access to a computer terminal for you to place your order. T the certificate will be sent to the address you provide.

- Extract certificate: €2.50 each
- Full certificate: €9.95 each
In-Person & by Post:
- Extract certificate: €2.60 each
- Full certificate: €10.25 each
General Information and Disclaimer
Please be advised that the Public Registry requires original documents for registration purposes. All documents submitted will be retained indefinitely in its archives.
Identità is required to recognise and register foreign public documents as part of the documentary evidence for applications across all its units. For documents that are not in English, a translation into Maltese or English is mandatory. If any fields or individual characters within a document are presented in a language other than English or Maltese, translations of those specific fields must be provided to facilitate the process.
