On 12th November 2025, the Public Registry within Identità welcomed representatives from Finland’s Digital and Population Data Services Agency, following an earlier exchange in January 2025. The visit aimed to share best practices, explore service delivery models, and identify opportunities for collaboration in civil registration and digital transformation.

During the discussions, the Malta Public Registry team presented its legal framework and operational processes, emphasising the importance of maintaining accurate civil records for both Maltese citizens and foreign nationals. The dialogue also explored how advanced digital functionalities can enhance efficiency, data integrity, and security.

Subsequent sessions focused on practical procedures, including the registration of life events for Maltese citizens abroad, as well as annotations and adjustments to civil records.

The agenda also covered marriage registration processes for both civil and religious ceremonies, including the publication of marriage banns and related documentation requirements.

The visit concluded with a review by MITA representatives of the Public Registry’s IT systems and MITA’s overarching digital strategy.

This exchange reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to innovation and service excellence. By combining legal, operational, and technological perspectives, the discussions fostered mutual understanding and laid the groundwork for future cooperation in civil registration and digital governance. Such engagements underscore the immense value of open dialogue and collaborative partnerships in driving progress and delivering better services for citizens.
