Central Visa Unit
The application for the working holiday visa shall be submitted to Identita’, the citizen authority of the Republic of Malta responsible for the processing of long-stay national (D) Visas in Malta, through the External Service Provider (VFS), or as otherwise instructed by Identita’. When necessary, Identita’ retains the right to interview the applicant to determine his/her eligibility.
The Working Holiday Visa will be issued on a one-time, non-renewable basis.
Eligibility
- Is a citizen of Australia;
- Submits a completed individual application;
- Intends primarily to spend holidays in Malta for a period of up to one (1) year from the date of entry;
- Is between eighteen (18) and thirty (30) years of age both inclusive at the time of application for the said visa;
- Is not accompanied by dependents unless those dependents are also entitled to enter Malta on their own grounds, and who would need to submit a separate application in this regard;
- Possesses reasonable funds for his or her maintenance during the period of initial stay in Malta;
- Holds medical and comprehensive insurance covering hospitalisation, liability and medical repatriation, which is to remain in force throughout the stay in Malta;
- Possesses a valid biometric passport of Australia; the validity of which shall exceed ninety (90) days beyond the initial expected period of stay in Malta;
- Submits a return travel ticket or sufficient funds with which to purchase such a ticket;
- Intends to leave the Republic of Malta at the end of his or her stay;
- Has not previously been issued the said visa;
- Has no criminal record; and
- Intends to comply with the laws and regulations in force in Malta during his or her stay in Malta.
Further information
Whilst the visa shall be issued free of charge by the Maltese competent authorities, the applicant shall still be required to pay any service fees levied by the External Service Provider.

Application Process
When planning to travel to Malta under the Working Holiday scheme, you may book a VFS appointment through Identità Malta’s Visa Extended Service, which can be accessed via the following link:

Through the above link, you may select your preferred visa application centre location as well as a suitable appointment date.
When attending your VFS appointment, please ensure that all required documentation is prepared and submitted accordingly.
