Expatriates Unit

Overview

 

EU nationals who wish to reside in Malta for more than three (3) months, and are either engaged in employment, must register their presence in Malta and may do so, provided that they provide certain documents confirming such eligibility.

Eligibility

 

The applicant must prove that they have engaged in employment with an employer registered in Malta, or alternatively that they are self-employed. It is imperative that the EU national complies and adheres to the relevant employment legislation. All employed and self-employed persons are bound to pay social contributions and tax on their income.

 

Documents required

 

  • Make sure that your registration with Jobsplus Unit is active under on going employment
  • Applicants shall apply through the Expatriates Unit Portal under Employment basis
  • If you are already in hold of a Maltese residence card use the same registration number (the one ending in letter A)
  • Copy of valid Foreign ID (front and back copy) or Passport (bio data page only)
  • Copy of either , work contract, if older than 6 months upload recent payslip or Jobsplus employment history.
  • Application Form A signed in wet ink signature or Advanced Electronic Signatures (AES) or Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES)
  • GDPR Form signed in wet ink signature or Advanced Electronic Signatures (AES) or Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES)

 

Note: Any document needs to be either in English or Maltese language, otherwise needs to be officially translated to English or Maltese by a verified translator

 

Kindly note that applicants in hold of a valid or expired residence card shall return their residence card upon biometric appointment. If your residence card is lost, a Police Lost Report issued here in Malta needs to be presented upon appointment.
