Before submitting an Application for a Residence Permit on the basis of Self- Employment, an application with Jobsplus should have been submitted for a request to obtain an Employment Licence (Refer to Jobsplus’ Employment Licences Unit Guidelines accessible from: https://jobsplus.gov.mt/employers-mt-MT-enGB/employingpersons/fileprovider.aspx?fileId=26854)

Applicable fee:

• First-time applications €100
• Renewal applications €100 per year for the duration of the permit (up to three years)

At the renewal stage a request for a 3-year period may be submitted if the Employment licence covers such period.

An activity concerning self-employment is related to work carried out independently as stipulated in the provisions of the Subsidiary Legislation 452.108 Employment Status National Standard Order.

Any person carrying out therefore work for a REGISTERED COMPANY is an EMPLOYEE of that company. This notion applies also to Company Directors, Shareholders and Ultimate Beneficial Owners who perform an Executive function.
In order to carry out such function the persons concerned would have to apply for Single Work Permit.
