Identità notes with satisfaction that the evidence presented in court on Thursday 16th of January confirms that the Agency was proven right.

Statements given in court clearly refute unfounded and baseless allegations made against Identità, which were solely aimed at causing harm and tarnishing the Agency’s integrity, its processes, and its employees.
Once again, Identità welcomes with satisfaction the legal actions taken against two persons following internal investigations initiated by the Compliance Unit and the Expatriates Unit within the same Agency. These investigations, which began in September 2022 concerning irregularities in the residence permit processes for Egyptian nationals, were forwarded to the Police and have now resulted in two individuals being brought to court to face multiple charges, including corruption, money laundering, and human trafficking in five cases – not the thousands previously claimed. In total, this case involves two Maltese and five foreign nationals.

In July of last year, when accusations were first made against the Agency, Identità denied these allegations and emphasised that it was their investigation and report that led to arrests and convictions in the Maltese courts. The evidence presented in court confirms the clear position Identità has always maintained and openly declared.

Identità reiterates that it will not tolerate any form of abuse or actions that could in any way compromise its integrity or the public’s trust. The Agency remains committed to investigating and taking any necessary steps against any suspicion of wrongdoing.
