Public Registry Local and Foreign Notifications – Overseas Death

Public Registry

When the death of a Maltese citizen occurs overseas, registration of death is submitted through one of Malta’s Missions, or directly to the Malta Public Registry Offices in Onda Building, Marsa or the Gozo Public Registry, George Borg Olivier Street, Victoria, Gozo. An original Death certificate issued by the foreign competent authority and confirmation of citizenship is required. Further information on notifications of death can be obtained here link.

The Public Registry requires original documents for registration purposes. Documents presented to the Public Registry, are retained indefinitely in its archives. Public documents that are not in the English language must be translated into Maltese or English. In cases where one or several fields are in a language other than the English or Maltese language, a translation of these fields is necessary for processing the document.
