The Searches Unit’s paperless system enters its second phase

Following the successful implementation of the initial phase of the paperless system, which featured the introduction of a qualified digital signature and the digital provision of wills, the Searches Unit will now extend its digital services to also include Updates.

The Searches Unit, within Identità Agency, has consistently digitally advanced its operations over the years. Noteworthy is the implementation of the current research system, offering a completely digital platform for the ordering and processing of searches, a system that has been operational for several years. The digital transformation prompted the initiation of a comprehensive project in 2022, that saw the introduction of the certified digital signature in line with the European Union Regulation 910/2014.

The introduction of this certified digital signature pilot project marked a pivotal moment, envisioning a future where clients could receive the services in the comfort of their offices or homes, and store it securely online. This forward-looking approach not only significantly reduced the use of paper for each order, but also safeguarded users from document loss, eliminating the need to resubmit orders. The paperless system stands as a concrete measure supporting environmental protection, and effectively curbing paper consumption.

The initial stage of this project involved the electronic issuance of Testamentary Searches. As the project progresses into its second phase, the Searches Unit will extend its services by providing Updates in a digital format. This may be done by visiting pubreg.identita.gov.mt.

Updates are a specialised type of search order usually ordered by notaries and banks, and represent the final stage preceding the publication of a contract. These search orders pertain to a specific time frame, limited to a maximum of 90 days before the contract’s publication.

This ambitious undertaking aims to deliver the final service to users in a digital format, reflecting Identità Agency’s strong and wide commitment to technological advancement, with the aim being to provide efficient and timely services to all its clients.

Identità plans to continue extending its digital services in the Research Unit, with the goal of digitising all searches provided by this unit by mid-next year.
